File Transfer Protocol or (FTP) in the web hosting world, is a way for your computer to communicate with your web server to transfer files back and forth. A lot of times, people that purchase web hosting, use those file managers from within their Plesk, or CPanels. This can be a very tedious process, that could be wasting your precious time. It just shouldn't be that much work to put your website on the internet. What FTP does, is it allows you to download and install a FTP client onto your local machine. One that we prefer the most is the FileZilla FTP client. It seems to be the most reliable and they are always bettering their software by coming out with new upgrades.
The FTP Client you use, will have to connect to your web hosting server, more than usual you can just use your domain name as the FTP server in the FTP connection setup wizard. For instance, www.example.com. Then you check on the cpanel of your web host for your login. Most commonly your FTP username and password will both be the same for your FTP login and the login and password you use to connect to your Plesk or Cpanel. This makes things a little more easier for you.
After you make the connection to your web server. You can navigate through the files on your local computer and the files on the remote server and then just simply find the files you want to upload and drag and drop them over to the folder on the server in which where you want those files to exist.
